About Barcamp

Barcamp Bangalore 8 – Back with a renewed focus!
Its been over two years now since Bangalore saw its first Barcamp. Over this period, the city’s flagship technology unconference has brought together hundreds of professionals who have participated in dozens of sessions to share their insights on cutting edge technologies.

With the success of the Barcamp format, we have seen the emergence of several other exciting unconferences targeting a range of technology niches. In this changed context, we are seeking to create a uniquely usefull space for geeks to come together while perfectly complementing similar events in the city.

Towards this objective, we have decided to make a few changes for Barcamp Bangalore 8.

Focus on Technology
Since their inception, Barcamps have always had technology as their defining focus. However, over the past few events, we had decided to experiment with a focus that was more broadly defined. We would like to go back to our roots.

For BCB8, we require that all topics be technology centric. With this undiluted focus on technology, we hope to increase the chances of participants connecting to and learning from others with shared interests.

Focus on Innovation
True Innovation with technology is only possible when all aspects that go into creating a product or solution come together. Given that Barcamps have always attracted participants from the all the technology disciplines (business, design, engineering), this event is uniquely positioned to promote Innovation.

For BCB8, we require that topics not only introduce technologies but also identify opportunities to apply them. What’s exciting is that other events such as Devcamp, Designcamp and Kickstart/OCC are ideally positioned to dive deeper into exploring a particular technology or opportunity.

Focus on Interaction
Free-flowing many-to-many interactions are the defining characteristics of a true unconference. However, over the past few events, sessions at Barcamp have tended to become presentation centric. We are seeking to make it discussion centric.

For BCB8, we require that participants submit topics prior to the event to ensure that a majority of a session is devoted discussions. We also hope that BCB’s new venue at Yahoo (a large, open, flat space) will encourage spontaneous and open-ended interaction among participants.

So, what are you waiting for? Go straight ahead and register, prepare and create a topic, and join us on the 7th and 8th of March for a exciting rendezvous with fellow geeks!
